Marketing Dissertation Topics: What You Should Avoid
Remind yourself before you start that a dissertation is an exploration of already documented facts. You will be adding small findings that compliment and bring value to the topic, rather than oppose and contradict those facts. Marketing has many different aspects to it including research. Research will help you look for information to support the concepts and theories you wish to use within your dissertation.
It’s recommended that you avoid the following:
- Stay away from complicated, multi-faceted topics
- Prove your passion, don’t sell a concept
- Be original, don’t plagiarize
- Do not rush
Do yourself a favour and stick to one topic. Don’t try to get fancy and complicate the work. Keep your topic focused and narrow so that you can expand on the details, providing sufficient evidence and support for your topic. Expounding on topics will simply multiply the work and most likely only allow you to provide summarized information proving that you only know the basics.
Marketing is a passionate subject which requires studying a great amount of theory. Theory requires a great amount of studying, which usually requires the student to understand and agree with the statements and research already completed on the topic. So, pick a topic you are passionate about and that you understand completely, rather than try to sell a new concept that you’ve created yourself.
No, you don’t need to write a fairytale. But never, never plagiarize! When doing your research, re-write the notes in your own words so that you don’t copy word for word what the previous person has written. If you do feel the need to quote someone, then use the inverted commas and state your source.
Do your best not to leave anything to the last minute. Doing the research and groundwork will take time and effort, and rushing this could cause you to miss a very important part of information needed to support your topic. Use all the resources you have available to you and sift through each detail.
Once you feel you have sufficient information you can start putting what you have found together in your dissertation paper to support the theory you have chosen to expound on. Again, this will take much focus and dedication in order to not only complete the paper in the correct format, but accurately show that you understand the work.
