Writing great concluding paragraphs for your doctoral thesis
The conclusion of your doctoral thesis confirms the thesis statement. Once the issues have been debated, your paper arrives at a final decision. The conclusion is based upon your reasoning and the results you have acquired and should answer any questions raised earlier during your writing. You may at this point wish to discuss the necessity for further research and predicting upcoming trends. Besides incorporating different issues, the conclusion should reflect the thesis statement.
The purpose of a conclusion
No new information needs to be included in your concluding paragraph. It must integrate all the parts of your discussion while keeping the reader focused on the main topic and the outlines made in your introduction. In addition, your conclusion should make a platform on the subject of the thesis statement and provide a definite understanding of the study as a whole. If your conclusion can stand by itself in justifying and defending the thesis, then you know it’s fulfilled its purpose.
Structure
The structure of a conclusion chapter should be clear and precise and should provide a strong, compelling sequence including an introduction, a middle section (a combination of findings to research questions and implications of theory and policies) and an end (guidance to additional research). These factors are not all mandatory, but a good doctoral thesis will incorporate all of them.
Content ideas
Any good conclusion provides a combination of findings such as the implications of your theory and the policies that go with. Evidence of arguments (derived from your methods) are given to indicate how everything comes together to respond to research questions posed at the beginning of your thesis. If your findings are different than others, indicate reasons for the variations by using your evidence as support. You should also try and identify study drawbacks which were encountered while you were performing your research. Ensure that you present your limitations positively, showing how they strengthened your experimental results instead of hindering them.
How to end
Your ending must have an ending. You can add a sentence or probably two sentences to strengthen your thesis statement which will give the examiner a sense of unity and a feeling that it was worth his or her while reading through everything. Provide a general discussion about the subject and its importance before exiting with a smooth, graceful tone at the end.
